Shri Tapan Sinha |
Directorate of Film Festivals of India (DFFI) announced the name of Bengali Director Tapan Sinha for the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2006. Shri Tapan Sinha aged 84 years received 19 National Film Awards so far. Recently he received “One Time Award for Life Time Achievement” on the occasion of 60 years of Independence.
Shri Tapan Sinha started his life in the film industry as a sound engineer in 1946 in “New Theatre” in Kolkotta. He directed the movies for Kabulivala, Khudi tho pashan, Athidi, Upahar, Hathe Bazere, Sagina Mahatho, Hansuli Baketh, Ek Doctor ki Mouth, Banchara Mar Bagan, Sathabdir Kanya….. He worked in Pine Wood Studio, in U.K. in 1950. He reflected the life of middle class people in his movies in Bengali, Hindi and in Oria.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is an annual award given by the Indian government for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema. It was instituted in 1969, the birth centenary year of Dadasaheb Phalke, considered the father of Indian cinema. The winner will be given cash award of Rs.10 Lakhs along with Golden Lotus (Swarna Kamalam).
